There is something in us that likes a list. We want to translate everything in life into something that is practical. We sleep with our cell phone under our pillow and, when we wake, begin each day with a silent meditation on our seven most important goals, recorded in our Life Goals app, revised quarterly. Lists become the diary of our compulsions, and we are too old now to change. We may not follow the list, but we would be lost without it.
