The Power of the Cynic

One verbal cynic in a room of fifty can set the tone and carry the day. It is not that we need cynics to join our effort, but we want to contain the influence they have over others. To deal with cynics, we must have an understanding of their source of power. The basic position of the cynic is this:

The organization has been down this path before.

Our unit may be committed, but the rest of organization does not support it.

Prove to me that top management supports this. Have they taken the blood vow required of them?

And if we go along with you, how long will you (meaning us) be around?
