Evaluating Results

A Story

When I took on my first teaching job, at the undergraduate level of a School of Tourism in the Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I faced a dilemma. How could I honor the principle that individuals learn more when they take full ownership of their learning, and at the same time fulfill the task of grading their performance, which from the perspective of intrinsic motivation and accountability was a contradiction? I decided to try out self-grading, and shared with the students from the start what the criteria would be.
