Chapter 9. Using Heterogeneous Storage Configurations

People often ask me, “Can I mix different storage arrays in my vSphere environment?”

The short answer is “yes!” This chapter explains why and how.

vSphere 6, as well as earlier releases, support a maximum of 1,024 paths to storage while vSphere 6.5 doubled that to 2048 paths (refer to Chapter 7, “Multipathing and Failover”). This maximum number of paths is the combined paths to all devices presented to the ESXi 6 host from all storage arrays, including local storage and direct attached storage.
