Before we dive into the remaining elements, allow me to inject some softening context here. It’s important to realize that the principles of structure are like a game plan. They are a game plan.

On paper they’re very precise, and if you stick to them you’ll always be on safe ground. But there is room for creative license, something best practiced by experienced writers who have first recognized the value of story structure and mastered its engineering.

It’s like Michael Jordan shooting a free throw with his eyes closed (he did that once, and he made the shot, too). Don’t try this at home; leave it to the professionals.
