According as circumstances are favourable, one should modify one's plans.’ In this, Sun Tzu is referring specifically to the need to remain flexible in changing conditions and be prepared to follow the advantage when it occurs.
Flexibility is as necessary in business as in war, and although planning is imperative a shrewd business person will always remain open to opportunities that could not have been foreseen in the planning phase. Sticking doggedly to a plan and refusing to adapt to favourable circumstances is foolish.
