We naturally defer to powerful people. It's not right or wrong, we just do.
When Machiavelli wrote about ecclesiastical authority in Chapter 11 of The Prince, he commented that ordinary people ‘cannot get rid of these rulers, nor even think about doing so’. When we don't have power ourselves, most of us naturally defer to authority, no matter what those authority figures demand of us. We don't get rid of the boss, because the boss is the boss.
