6.5. Simulation Results

To verify our analytical models we compared their output with the results obtained from a simple reliability simulator that was specifically designed for this purpose. Initially the simulator was provided with a physical and logical storage configuration as well as a mapping between the two. The simulator then generated random, exponentially distributed failures based on the MTTFdisk of each of the physical disks. A failed disk was assumed to be repaired within a fixed time of MTTRdisk = 6 hours. The simulator monitored the parity groups consisting of logical disks for two or more concurrent failures.
