8.2. RedHi: A Typical Distributed Streaming Media Server

In this section, we focus on developing a novel DSMS architecture, termed Redundant Hierarchy (RedHi) DSMS. As far as a CSMS can support the required storage and streaming capabilities, choice of the CSMS for the DSMS network nodes does not affect the DSMS design. Similarly, if the DSMS middleware is implemented at the application layer, as far as the links (either physical or logical, dedicated genuinely or by emulation) provide the required guaranteed service, the DSMS design will be independent of the underlying telecommunication infrastructure.
