1. Eat a Variety of Foods

The forty to sixty nutrients necessary for maintaining good physical and emotional health include vitamins; minerals; amino acids from proteins; essential fatty acids from vegetable oils and animal fats; and sources of energy from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Most foods contain multiple nutrients; however, no one food supplies all the essential nutrients in the needed amounts. Thus, the greater the variety in your diet, the less likely you are to develop either a deficiency or an excess of any single nutrient.
