Elasticity Notations and Equations
This appendix reviews the elasticity notations and equations needed to comprehend the other chapters of the book. Cartesian, vectorial, and tensorial formulations are used in parallel such that the reader can easily relate between them. Differential operators, strain-displacement relations, dilatation and rotation, stress-strain relations in engineering and Lame notations, equations of motion; governing Navier-Lame equations, tractions, boundary conditions are presented. Rectangular, cylindrical, polar, and spherical coordinate system are used. Special cases like 2-D elasticity (plane stress and plane strain) and axisymmetric conditions in polar and cylindrical coordinates are also presented.
