Chapter 6. Generic Tags

As explained in Chapter 5, “Form Tags,” Struts comes bundled with a tag library that contains UI and non-UI tags. In this chapter we look at the non-UI tags, which are also known as generic tags.

There two types of generic tags, data tag and control tag. The following are the data tags:

  • a

  • action

  • bean

  • date

  • debug

  • i18n

  • include

  • param

  • push

  • set

  • text

  • url

  • property

Note

The i18n and text tags are related to internationalization and discussed in Chapter 9, “Message Handling.” The debug tag is used for debugging and explained in Chapter 16, “Debugging and Profiling.”

The following are the control tags:

  • if

  • elself

  • else

  • append

  • generator

  • iterator

  • merge

  • sort

  • subset
