Yes, we should aim high and yes, we should have goals but – almost paradoxically – we also need to live in the moment.

You don’t want to suffer from When–Then Syndrome. When this happens, then I’ll be happy. When I get my boss’s job then I’ll be happy. When I have a bestselling novel then I’ll be happy. When I have enough money then I can pursue my passion. When the mortgage is paid off . . . the kids have been through college . . . etc. etc. You don’t want to be in an endless pursuit of the perfect life while missing what’s right there in front of you.
