Chapter 5. Keys to SOA Success

The case studies in Chapters 2 and 3 illustrate the kinds of problems that can arise when systems become disconnected from their business purpose and, by extension, from the business processes they are intended to support. This chapter takes a deeper look at the relationship between systems and business processes. You will see that as business processes become increasingly reliant on systems, the design of the business processes and the design of the systems become so interdependent that the design of one cannot be addressed without considering the design of other. This interdependency then impacts how to think about the design process and systems architecture.
