Social Influence

Introduction

Many of our behaviors are shaped by the circumstances we find ourselves in (e.g., think road rage). Sometimes we are calm and relaxed while driving, but other times we get behind an automobile steering wheel and get very angry; we may have seen others exhibit the same behavior. An interesting thing to remember is that we don’t judge others as we would judge ourselves in the same instance. For example, we may have read a news report about someone driving a car down a highway over 100 miles per hour and think there is something wrong with that person: are they looking to hurt someone?
