TCP Transfer Characteristics for Web Servers

TCP transfers can be classified into a number of recognizable, characteristic sequences that can determine problems. A tool for visualizing the sequences makes this classification a lot easier to do. Examples of some common sequences seen on web servers illustrate the characteristics. The tool is available as a free download from the Internet, and I’ll illustrate how you can use it to see things that you can’t figure out from a snoop listing or packet analyzer.
