SunOS and Solaris Release Overview
The number of fixed-size tables in the kernel has been reduced in each release of Solaris. Most are now dynamically sized or are linked to the maxusers calculation, which is now also sized automatically. There is no need for general-purpose tuning in recent Solaris releases; the main performance improvements come from keeping patch levels up to date. Specific situations may require tuning for configuration or performance reasons that are later. My own personal recommendations for each release vary, as summarized in Table 14-1.
