System Configuration Information

Systems are becoming more complex, and many of the performance problems that occur can be solved by changing the configuration. Commercially available performance management tools do not do a good job of obtaining and presenting configuration information. Most tools attempt to be portable across products from multiple vendors, and it is very hard to keep track of many vendors, all continuously releasing new products. A notable exception is Sun’s Solstice Symon product. This product is built by part of the same team that built the hardware, so they have inside information ahead of time and can track the new hardware as it is released.
