The Original Mr. Inimitable

I was searching for a word to describe the idea of embracing our uniqueness, our differences, and valuing the different perspectives and experiences that have shaped who we are. That's when I met my friend Trent and he introduced me to his favorite word: inimitable.

In a world with so much division we need more to shape our reality than simply seeing through a singular lens that we see as truth. There must be another option than eliminating anything that doesn't fit the mold or blend with the group. Self-doubt and fear of being called out for not thinking or living the same as the people around us has created more self-limitations and has the potential to sabotage us from becoming our authentic selves more than anything else.

I was introduced to Trent Witz though Twitter where I learned about what Minneapolis North High School is doing for students who play basketball. The introduction was through a documentary piece he was sharing. A high school where these incredibly gifted athletes rarely considered college and most didn't complete their education and graduate has been transformed through the work of passionate coaches like Trent Witz and Larry McKenzie.

Minneapolis North became a powerhouse of basketball, gaining national attention for recruiters because the coaching staff had turned a school that some officials said needed to be shut down into a school with a basketball program carrying 100% graduation rate.
