Order Processing and Fulfillment

12.1 BASIC CONCEPT

Order fulfillment refers to receipt of customer’s orders and the activities that take place after receipt of such orders, until the time of delivery of the product at the customer’s end. From the firm’s point of view, order fulfillment refers to optimization of all such activities to fulfill customer’s demands. While working on such activities, the supply chain process must be optimized so that customers’ orders are met in a profitable way and the firm can differentiate itself from competitors.
