Transportation of Pharmaceutical Products
20.1 INTRODUCTION
The current pharmaceutical transportation scenario in India is extremely complex. One of the main reasons for this complex supply chain environment is the presence of more than 8 to 8.5 lakh retail pharmacies which are spread across India.
In India, a large number of medicines must be transported to distant areas through poorly connected routes and poor road conditions. Due to poor transport facilities, the cost of transportation of drugs is much higher. About one-third of the revenue generated by pharmaceutical companies is spent on transportation.
