6.1 Overview
Research is conducted to find answers to questions about the big world. For instance, in social science research, studies may be conducted using a survey with a scale to find “How mindful are primary teachers in California?” or “How effective is the training for enhancing mindfulness in primary teachers in California?” Although the scope of investigation as suggested by the research questions is very broad, involving the population of all primary teachers in California, the actual number of participants recruited to participate in the research (as samples of the populations from which they are drawn) is much lower, typically involving only a small percent of the defined populations. ...
