13.1 Overview

The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (AERA, APA, & NCME, 2014) is accepted by the measurement community as setting the standards for measurement. The goal of the document is “to provide criteria for the development and evaluation of tests and testing practices and to provide guidelines for assessing the validity of interpretations of test scores for the intended test uses” (p. 1). The mission of our book is to align with that goal for survey development and research by relating how design leads us to gather valid information about peoples’ opinions and self-assessment.
