Abstract

Synthetic materials mostly at the molecular level exhibit porosity up to three-dimensional framework fashion. In particular, metal-organic porous frameworks have captivated a major attraction in this direction. Conversely, discrete molecules in the solid-state tend to pack in a manner to leave a small vacant space as much as possible, which leads the way to non-porous materials. This kind of perpetual assessment makes the present-day developments of porous natured molecules endured in two morphological states. They exist either as crystalline or as amorphous, and are further categorized either as molecules possess porosity in intrinsic nature (permanent covalent cavities) or in extrinsic nature (packed incompetently). The present review focuses on the nature of Porous Organic Polymers (POP) and discuss their classifications widely, based on their pore size, morphology, and pore volumes. Further, this review encircles the major types of POPs such as covalent organic frameworks (COFs), covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs), hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs), conjugated micro porous polymers (CMPs), porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs), extrinsic and intrinsic porous molecules and porous organic cages, and discussed their relative properties, synthetic strategy, ...
