This chapter describes concepts and design issues related to the response side of a synthetic measurement system. The main goal of the response subsystem is to measure some aspect of the DUT in a measurement context. A secondary goal is to measure the output of the stimulus system for calibration purposes.
Some of the concepts discussed relating to stimulus also apply to response, and vice versa. Some concepts, however, are unique to response. The response CCC cascade comprises the interface to the DUT and associated signal conditioning, A/D conversion (response codec), and finally a DSP controller. The ordering of this cascade is the opposite of the stimulus cascade, but the functions are completely analogous.
