This chapter explores the path we have followed in this book and in our profession followed by an attempt to look into the future—seldom a successful undertaking. The reader’s enterprise of interest can, of course, follow the encouragement offered in this book and improve its performance in systems development but the prescription offered may not apply for all time far into the future. We will continue to improve our machinery and knowledge leading to advances in method. So, it is insufficient to simply master the present.
