The five diamonds of the Shingo Model are Principles, Systems, Tools, Results, and Culture (Figure 10.1). System design is connected to each of the diamonds. The first Insight of Organizational Excellence states: “ideal results require ideal behaviors.” The results of an organization depend on the behavior of each person. The second insight tells us that “purpose and systems drive behavior,” and the third insight teaches that “principles inform ideal behavior.”*
