Use of the Tables*
For the effective use of the tables contained in this book it is necessary that the user should first become familiar with the classification system for integrals devised by the authors Gradshteyn and Ryzhik. This classification is described in detail in the section entitled The Order of Presentation of the Formulas (see page xxv) and essentially involves the separation of the integrand into inner and outer functions. The principal function involved in the integrand is called the outer function and its argument, which is itsel usually another function, is called the inner function.
