I first met and interviewed Karen Nussbaum in 1991. At the time, she was President of 925, SEIU, a union for office workers. I found her perspective enlightening and a little chilling, especially her observation that “26 million Americans are monitored by the machines that they work on.” She added, “one woman recently told me her computer screen often flashed “You’re not working as fast as the person next to you!”
