Chapter 9. Install and Use VirtualBox

The third major virtualization package for Intel-based Macs, VirtualBox, is still somewhat behind Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion in features and polish. Among other shortcomings, the version available at publication time offered no support for audio input and no automatic Windows setup feature.

So why would anyone bother with it? In a word, it's free. It's also, despite its limitations, surprisingly fast and reasonably stable. If you need to use Windows applications only occasionally but still want the convenience of running them without rebooting your computer, VirtualBox may be just the ticket. And, of course, it will almost certainly become much better over time.
