Chapter . Working with the Navigation Pane

The Navigation Pane used to be called the Document Map. It can be summoned and dismissed either with View > Navigation Pane or using the new Navigation Pane button in the Standard toolbar.

The Navigation Pane now has two modes, which are toggled with a pop-up menu at the top of the pane:

  • Thumbnail mode: This mode shows small images of the pages of the document; click one to navigate to that page.

  • Document Map mode: As previously, this mode lists your document’s outline-level paragraphs (which are usually the same as your heading paragraphs) in outline form; click a list entry to navigate to that paragraph (Figure 17).
