For years, Apple has been adding to macOS (and other operating systems) ever more ways that the system itself, individual apps, websites, and of course people can grab your attention via notifications—visual and/or audio alerts—with varying degrees of intrusiveness. It’s not just every email, text message, phone call, and calendar alert that tries to grab your eyeballs. Almost any inconsequential activity from any app also now feels the need to say, “Hey! Look at me!”
