Choose a Resolution
Until recently, resolution on the iPhone wasn’t even a consideration. Every camera’s sensor output a 12 MP image, or 4032 by 3024 pixels at the default 4:3 aspect ratio. Now, the iPhone 14 Pro and all iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models include a 48 MP Main camera, multiplying the resolution options. (If you own an iPhone 14 (non-Pro) or earlier, you can skip this chapter.)
The first thing to keep in mind is that higher resolutions are only possible when using the Main camera; the Ultra Wide, Telephoto, and Front cameras all still record at 12 MP. But just switching to the Main (1x) camera doesn’t necessarily mean you’re capturing photos at 48 MP. In fact, you need to take extra steps to get the highest resolution!
