Chapter Eight. Growth

One of the most exciting and fun areas of corporate life is overseeing and driving the growth of a company. It is also one of the most dangerous activities a company can partake in, because if done in an uncontrolled manner, it can destroy a company. Turnaround people are often called in to solve the problems of uncontrolled growth and sometimes to bury companies whose growth plans and strategies were flawed.

As we all know, there are two types of growth: natural growth and growth through acquisitions. But it is important to remember that all growth requires cash—cash to support increased levels of inventory, cash to support increased receivables, cash to support capital and personnel increases.
