Disagree without being disagreeable

We can’t avoid disagreement. In our domestic life every day produces a bundle of new disagreements. In the workplace it’s essential. Why? How else are new and better ideas born? Companies that don’t have a culture of allowing employees the opportunity to present alternative views lose out in all ways.

I’ve spent time over the years in meetings, with a degree of awe at how some people are able to manage to show disagreement at somebody’s comments or ideas in a way that invites disharmony. Meetings have been wrecked by the unnecessary way in which a person has voiced disagreement.
