The previous three parts of this book have examined several of the most widely used TCP/IP file and message transfer protocols: the File Transfer Protocol (FTP), the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), electronic mail (email), and the World Wide Web. Of course, hundreds of other applications are in use on the Internet today, and we couldn't possibly examine them all here. However, there are a couple of other protocols that are considered part of the group of classic applications of TCP/IP like FTP, email, and the Web that I feel are worth discussing.
