If we “trust people who meet our expectations,” my friend and colleague, Dick Kropp, takes the argument one step farther when he says “the extent to which we believe that our expectations are accurate determines the amount of time and attention we devote to oversight, follow-up and contingency plans.” In other words, when we believe that our teammates will meet our positive expectations of them, we trust that the job will be done efficiently and effectively.
