Chapter 5. QoS Reality
In Chapter 4, we discussed the traditional QoS wisdom, including a QoS business model and a technical solution. This QoS wisdom has been widely accepted by the “believers” of QoS. In this chapter, we will examine the reality of Internet QoS. This is part of the effort to check the validity of this traditional QoS wisdom. If QoS is present today, or is close to becoming reality, in the way the traditional wisdom envisioned, then the traditional QoS wisdom is likely valid. Otherwise, the wisdom may have some fundamental issues. Note again that in this book, QoS means good service quality. It may or may not be related to Diffserv or CoS.
