Special effects that respond to a simple on/off control signal can be operated by a Magnetic Reed-Switch (MRS) Controller. The MRS Controller will operate such effects as “wheat” lamps, star-drop circuits, bells, buzzers, and solenoids without requiring sophisticated electronics and construction.

An MRS operates by reacting mechanically to the presence of a magnetic field. It is widely and cheaply available because of its use in intruder-alarm systems.
