Underhung Hinge

To fully conceal a trapdoor in a deck, the hinging mechanism must be hidden. However skillfully installed, the knuckle of a conventional hinge will protrude above deck level. A hinge developed to solve this problem can be mounted below the deck and works much like the hinge on an automobile hood. See Figure 1.

Dimensions and materials listed were used for a trapdoor in a deck with 9″ of clearance below. They are intended only as a guide and may be adjusted to suit other requirements.
