No matter how accurate your grammar is or how wide ranging your vocabulary, people just don’t enjoy speaking to you unless you observe the basics of cultural etiquette. And the converse is also true. People go out of their way to assist someone who’s polite and well-mannered.

In this chapter, I show you how to train students so that they’re more aware of courteous customs. Depending on your own background and the needs of your students, you may familiarise them with another English-speaking community. However, here I use UK culture as the point of reference.
