Hiding a Field

If there's a field that you don't want to use at the moment, but will want later, you may want to hide it instead of deleting it. There are two advantages to hiding a field:

  • If you have entered any records, you can preserve any data you entered into that field.

  • The Field Properties you set when you created the field will remain intact, so you don't have to re-enter them later.

You must hide a field using Datasheet view; you cannot hide it using Table Design view. Follow these steps:

  1. Switch to Datasheet view, if you aren't there already.

  2. Select the field(s) you want to hide.

  3. Select Format, Hide Columns. The columns disappear.

To unhide the column(s) later, follow these steps:

  1. Select Format, Unhide Columns. The Unhide Columns ...
