One night just prior to starting my content‐creation journey, I sat staring at my computer late into the night. I knew I wanted to start posting content on my social feed, but what about? I was completely unsure of where to start, what to talk about, or what my content would even look like. I had no sense of niche, no frame of reference, or anything.

While I stared at my screen, the following questions went through my head:

  • What platform do I choose?
  • How many platforms should I post on?
  • How often should I post?
  • What time of the day should I post?
  • What should I post about?
  • I'm not an expert at anything, so what should I talk about?
  • Should I pick just one thing?
  • How will I know if I picked the right thing?
  • How will I know if it's any good?
  • How much time will this take?
  • Will I even be able to monetize it?
  • What if I change my mind on what I want to do?
  • What will my friends, family, and clients think of me?
  • Will people think I'm a fraud?
  • What if I fail and look like an idiot?
  • What if I regret doing all of this?

My point is, if any of this is familiar to you, you're not alone. I spent plenty of time feeling overwhelmed and stuck. But then Elli suggested I model my future content on work I admire and respect. Why shouldn't I look for inspiration in people who were already successful? This meant I had to create a model of others to follow. ...
