Our local theater in Marina del Rey was an awesome place for a sixteen-year-old to work. First of all, we had this cool and likeable general manager named Hanson Copeland. He was a dashing, debonair guy in his late twenties who bore a striking resemblance to Apollo Creed. Hanson Copeland had a black belt in karate and a charisma level right up there with Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a true leader, a guy’s guy, a girl’s guy. He was a lot of fun to work for, but we also genuinely respected him. He always encouraged us to work as a team and to be boldly experimental. Our running goal was to be the best and most profitable theater in the chain.
Working at the Cineplex was like being at summer camp. ...
