We wrote the IVK story to be representative, in essence if not in detail, of the experiences of many companies as they struggle to manage rapidly emerging IT-based challenges and capabilities. Jim Barton’s odyssey represents, albeit in compressed form, the journey of IT managers as they strive to lead their companies’ efforts in this area. It is exceedingly important, we believe, that managers, regardless of their degree of technical training, be more introspective about these kinds of issues, stories, experiences, and adventures.
