In Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnson’s book The Illusion of Life they list the famous 12 principles of animation. These laws were discovered by animators through motion analysis and trial and error. In a sense this was Disney’s specific, methodical, and consistent recipe, which allowed the Disney animators to specifically, methodically, and consistently create realistic animation that followed the real laws of physics.
