Materials and Setup

Materials are important, but not as important as you may think. A skilled artist can produce a compelling drawing with the most modest materials: a cheap ball point pen on lined paper, a piece of chalk on a concrete driveway, or even a finger on a dirty windshield. Unlike oil painting, ceramics, or photography, which require specific and often expensive materials, drawing is truly open to anyone regardless of circumstances There is no barrier to entry. You can go through this book with whatever materials you have on hand. If all you have are some crayons and an old, lined note pad, you can still learn to draw. That being said, here is a primer on some of the most common drawing materials as well as my recommendations.
