PRINCIPLE 6
ACTIVATING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

There’s a Disney Pixar movie called Inside Out that I wish we could all watch together. Leave it to a kids’ movie to have more profound contributions to society than modern culture.
The storyline centers around 11-year-old Riley Andersen and her five personified emotions: Disgust, Anger, Fear, Sadness, and Joy. Fresh off a move from Minnesota to San Francisco, Riley’s world is in flux. She’s off her game and out of her flow state. It’s worth mentioning that even though she’s a preteen, Riley’s reaction to change is a lot like ours as adults—she flounders, vacillating from anger, to sadness, to fear, to joy, to disgust, and back again.
