In 1992, Jack Stack, President and CEO of Springfield Remanufacturing Company in Springfield, Missouri, wrote an award-winning book with Bo Burlington, Editor-at-Large with Inc. Magazine. The book was titled The Great Game of Business: Unlocking the Power and Profitability of Open-Book Management. In it, the authors describe a management process that they used to turn their manufacturing business around, during a period of very difficult times in their industries. They used the analogy of ‘business as a game’, based upon the concept that in any game, people keep score, so that they know how they are doing.
