CHAPTER 12Be Energizing
Today, we were going to the chicken coop to collect eggs. Our family eats eggs all the time. In fact, the girls had recently let us know that they preferred egg whites, and since that's healthier, we were happy about their newfound attention to nutrition.
The chicken‐coop activity was something the girls really wanted to do. We had scheduled this for early afternoon, and decided to invest the morning with a walk around the farm. I took Tom and the girls to the proximal part of the farm. I began explaining to them that from this spot, the farm extends a mile and a half in every direction, so the forager bees can go out and pollinate the entire farm.
The girls referred to some scenes from the Bee Movie and were impressed with my bee knowledge. We walked by the bee sanctuary, where I began my bee lessons with Henry. There was a sign on a stand near the door that read:
Henry was incredibly entrepreneurial. He optimized every aspect of the farm for beautiful events (and learning opportunities). We continued our walk past the garden that houses Henry's bench with the inscription to Catherine. We did not go inside, but the girls were curious; I told them it is a special place, and we should let it be.
